Associate Director for Tissues, Cells and Advanced Therapies / Honorary Reader


JCM is the Associate Director for Tissues, Cells and Advanced Therapies (TCAT) at the SNBTS and an Honorary Reader at University of Edinburgh.   As an experienced experimental haematologist and stem cell biologist Jo’s focus is the assessment, development and translation of discovery science into robust, GMP-compatible processes suitable for manufacturing Advanced Therapies. In her role at SNBTS Jo is responsible for the development of novel cell and gene therapies from somatic and pluripotent sources, collaborating with academic and industrial colleagues to prepare novel therapies for clinical trials, and leading a group of more than 30 scientists.  The group specialises in the area of early stage products, designing CMC programs and developing processes/analytics to a point where they can be transferred to our in-house GMP manufacturing team/facility.  TCAT are currently delivering or developing products derived from tissues, somatic cells and pluripotent stem cells including HSPCs, MSC, islets, virus specific T-cells, macrophages. Author of 70+ research articles (ORCID ID: 0000-0003-2142-6572), JCM has also secured and led multi-million pound projects supervising a large team of scientists since 2008. All PhD students for whom JCM has been a co-/supervisor have successfully completed and have obtained positions in science.
