Thierry Burnouf, PhD, is a Distinguished Professor and Vice-Dean at the College of Biomedical Engineering, Taipei Medical University, Taiwan. He established and leads a research lab focusing on platelets and extracellular vesicles for regenerative medicine, cell therapy, and drug delivery. He also holds an Honorary Professorship at the University of Lille, France. Prior to working in Taiwan, Thierry Burnouf was head of R&D, Director of plasma fractionation at CRTS-Lille, and Scientific Director of LFB, in France, and Vice-President of Haemonetics Corporation, USA.
Thierry has published over 350 scientific papers on the development and clinical applications of therapeutic products derived from human plasma and platelets, and is the inventor of more than 25 patent families related to blood product technologies. He is a member of the editorial board for Vox Sanguinis, Platelets, Biologicals, Transfusion Clinique et Biologique, and others. He serves as Treasurer of the Working Party for Cellular Therapies and as the Secretary of the Working Party for Global Blood Safety of the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT), and is an advisor to the WHO, contributing to several guidelines on blood product quality and safety.
Thierry Burnouf was awarded the 2024 Presidential Award of the ISBT, the 2021 Outstanding Research Award from Taiwan's Ministry of Science and Technology, and the 2019 International Plasma and Plasma Fractionation Association (IPFA) Award for his translation work on therapeutic blood products.
